Baldwin County, Alabama
Elberta homes, one accountable plumber.
Baldwin County has plenty of second homes and rentals that sit empty for stretches. Lines that do not get used are lines that give trouble when they do.

Plumbing in Elberta
For Elberta the answer about timing comes from the person holding the calendar and the wrench, so it is a real one. That is the practical benefit of a one-man shop. You get the cause, the fix and the honest version of how urgent it is.
Every service on the list runs in Elberta. The truck carries the parts that the frequent ones need. See the full service list, or send Paul a message.
You get told what the work takes before it starts. No incentive here pays more for a replacement than a repair, which removes the reason most people distrust a plumbing quote.
Baldwin County builds fast and builds new, and new does not mean trouble free. A lot of the work here is slab, PEX and tankless, which fails differently than the old copper and cast iron across the bay. Pictures of the work are in the gallery.
What Baldwin County plumbing runs into
Pressure in newer subdivisions
Several of the newer developments run high municipal pressure, which quietly shortens the life of every valve, fill valve and appliance hose in the house. A gauge on a hose bib settles it, and a regulator fixes it permanently.
New construction fails differently
Baldwin County has built fast, and a lot of the housing is slab on grade with PEX supply and tankless or high-efficiency water heating. Those systems do not fail like cast iron and copper do. The problems are at manifolds, at fittings that were crimped poorly, and at equipment that needs service nobody scheduled.
Grinder pumps and low-lying lots
Between the eastern shore and the beach line there are a lot of properties that cannot reach a gravity sewer, so grinder pumps and pressure lines are ordinary here in a way they are not in most markets. The pump, the basin, the floats and the control panel are a system, and most callbacks are in the controls rather than the pump itself.
Older houses behave differently
Much of the housing stock in this part of Alabama is old enough to have cast iron drains, galvanized supply, or a mix of three generations of repairs. Those systems do not fail the way a new build fails, and the repair that is right for one is wrong for the other. Experience with the local stock is most of the job.
What happens after the work is done
The repair gets tested before anybody packs up, the work area gets cleaned, and you get told what was done and what to watch for. If something is going to need attention in a year, you hear about it now rather than discovering it later.

How to tell what you’re dealing with
Knowing which of these sounds like your house makes the first call a lot shorter.
If a drain gurgles when another runs
Air is being pulled through a trap because the vent is blocked or the line is partly closed. The gurgle is the system telling you where to look.
If it only happens when it rains
Groundwater is getting into the drain system, which points at a cracked line, a bad cleanout cap or a sump that is not keeping up.
If the floor is warm in one spot
On a slab that usually means a hot line is leaking underneath it. The warm patch is the cheapest diagnostic you will ever get.
If it is only one fixture
The problem is almost always local to that fixture: its trap, its supply, its shutoff or its own valve. Fixing the fixture fixes it, and nobody needs to open a wall.
“I called at 0700 am because I did not have any water that morning… he calmed me down and assured me he would be here at 0900 and he was here”
Things worth doing yourself
None of this needs a plumber. It’s the short list that prevents the calls nobody wants to make.
- Garbage disposal Cold water, not hot, and let it run a few seconds after the grinding stops. Hot water melts grease into the line downstream.
- Aerators Unscrew and rinse the faucet screens once a year, especially on well water. Most weak faucets are just a clogged screen.
- Heater fittings Look at the connections on top of the tank for green or white crust. That is the first sign of a slow weep.
- Shut off valve Know where the main shut off is and turn it by hand once a year. The moment you need it is the worst moment to discover it is seized.
- Water heater Check the T and P valve and look at the base of the tank for rust or damp. Five minutes, twice a year.
Straight answers
Still not sure? Ask Paul directly.
Do you come out to Elberta?
Because this is a one-truck shop, Elberta calls get a real answer about timing instead of a four hour window. Paul has worked this area since 2023 and knows what the drive looks like.
Who shows up at the door?
Paul Evans. The same person who answers the phone, every time.
Are you licensed to work here?
Licensed Master Plumber MP4379, bonded and insured, working all of Baldwin County.
What areas do you cover?
Mobile, Baldwin and Washington County, out of Wilmer, roughly a fifty mile radius.
Will you try to sell me a replacement?
No. There is no commission structure here and no quota, so if a repair will hold, that is what you get told.
Do you work on older homes?
Yes. A lot of the housing stock here is older, and cast iron, galvanized and polybutylene all behave differently. That is diagnosis work, which is the part that matters.
Let’s talk solutions.
Tell Paul what it’s doing. He’ll tell you what it needs and when he can be there.
