Baldwin County, Alabama

Spanish Fort homes, one accountable plumber.

Plumbing in Spanish Fort

Every Spanish Fort job is quoted and done by the same person, so nothing gets lost between what you were told and what gets done. He finds the cause rather than the symptom, because fixing the symptom is how a job comes back.

Spanish Fort gets the same service list as everywhere else in the three counties, with a truck equipped to close out most calls in one go. See the full service list, or send Paul a message.

You get told what the work takes before it starts. Because this is one person and not a fleet with overhead to feed, the cheaper repair stays on the table when the cheaper repair is right.

Baldwin County has plenty of second homes and rentals that sit empty for stretches. Lines that do not get used are lines that give trouble when they do. Pictures of the work are in the gallery.

What Baldwin County plumbing runs into

  • Grinder pumps and low-lying lots

Between the eastern shore and the beach line there are a lot of properties that cannot reach a gravity sewer, so grinder pumps and pressure lines are ordinary here in a way they are not in most markets. The pump, the basin, the floats and the control panel are a system, and most callbacks are in the controls rather than the pump itself.

  • Houses that sit empty

Second homes and seasonal rentals have lines that go unused for long stretches. Traps dry out, seals stiffen, and small leaks run for weeks before anybody is there to notice. A quick check before and after a season off is worth more than most people expect.

  • Crimped fittings and manifolds

Where PEX is the supply system, the failures cluster at fittings that were crimped poorly and at the manifold rather than along the runs. That is good news: it means the problem is usually findable at an access point instead of inside a wall.

  • What a real diagnosis looks like

The first thing that happens is somebody looks at the actual failure instead of the symptom you can see from the doorway. That means opening the panel, running the camera, putting a meter on it, or isolating the zone. It takes longer than guessing and it is the only part of the job that decides whether the repair holds.

  • Plain language about what it costs

You find out what the work involves before it starts. Not a range that moves once the tools come out, and not a number that depends on what else can be added to the ticket. If there is a cheaper option that will hold, you hear about it, and if the cheap option is going to fail you hear about that too.

How to tell what you’re dealing with

Knowing which of these sounds like your house makes the first call a lot shorter.

  • If a drain gurgles when another runs

Air is being pulled through a trap because the vent is blocked or the line is partly closed. The gurgle is the system telling you where to look.

  • If it only happens when it rains

Groundwater is getting into the drain system, which points at a cracked line, a bad cleanout cap or a sump that is not keeping up.

  • If the floor is warm in one spot

On a slab that usually means a hot line is leaking underneath it. The warm patch is the cheapest diagnostic you will ever get.

  • If it is only one fixture

The problem is almost always local to that fixture: its trap, its supply, its shutoff or its own valve. Fixing the fixture fixes it, and nobody needs to open a wall.

Things worth doing yourself

None of this needs a plumber. It’s the short list that prevents the calls nobody wants to make.

  • Garbage disposal Cold water, not hot, and let it run a few seconds after the grinding stops. Hot water melts grease into the line downstream.
  • Aerators Unscrew and rinse the faucet screens once a year, especially on well water. Most weak faucets are just a clogged screen.
  • Heater fittings Look at the connections on top of the tank for green or white crust. That is the first sign of a slow weep.
  • Shut off valve Know where the main shut off is and turn it by hand once a year. The moment you need it is the worst moment to discover it is seized.
  • Water heater Check the T and P valve and look at the base of the tank for rust or damp. Five minutes, twice a year.

Straight answers

Still not sure? Ask Paul directly.

Do you come out to Spanish Fort?

No call center sits between Spanish Fort and the truck. You describe the problem to the plumber, which means the right tools are on board when he arrives.

Who shows up at the door?

Paul Evans. The same person who answers the phone, every time.

Are you licensed to work here?

Licensed Master Plumber MP4379, bonded and insured, working all of Baldwin County.

What areas do you cover?

Mobile, Baldwin and Washington County, out of Wilmer, roughly a fifty mile radius.

Will you try to sell me a replacement?

No. There is no commission structure here and no quota, so if a repair will hold, that is what you get told.

Do you work on older homes?

Yes. A lot of the housing stock here is older, and cast iron, galvanized and polybutylene all behave differently. That is diagnosis work, which is the part that matters.

Let’s talk solutions.

Tell Paul what it’s doing. He’ll tell you what it needs and when he can be there.
